About us – ProteoGenix, an antibody production company

Founded in 2003, ProteoGenix initially focused on developing diagnostic assays and biotherapeutics targeting discovered proteins. Recognizing the value of high-quality antibodies and proteins, ProteoGenix ventured into the biopharmaceutical domain, aiming to facilitate clinical access and becoming a leading antibody production company.

ProteoGenix quickly became recognized as a trusted Contract Research Organization (CRO) and preferred partner in the biopharmaceutical industry. Our expertise in therapeutic antibodies and custom assays significantly improved the success rate of custom therapeutics advancing to the investigational new drug (IND) application stage.

ProteoGenix is more than an antibody production company—it serves as a service integrator, guiding customers from early discovery to the clinic by anticipating future biomolecule requirements and designing tailor-made strategies to proactively meet those needs. Our extensive portfolio of innovative solutions covers six complementary areas:

  • Antibody engineering (Humanization, Bispecifics, ADC, affinity maturation, antibody optimization)
  • Bioprocess development (IP-free stable cell line development, fermentation, and bioreactor production optimization)
  • Monoclonal and polyclonal antibody development (Hybridoma and Phage Display methods)
  • Recombinant protein and antibody production services (E. coli, B. subtilis, Yeast, Insect cells, Mammalian cells)
  • Gene synthesis
  • Peptide synthesis

Our research and development labs continually drive innovation, such as our proprietary XtenCHO™ cell line for industry-leading antibody expression in mammalian cells.

ProteoGenix also offers an extensive online catalog of over 7,000 products, featuring antibodies, proteins, ELISA kits, cell separation media, and nucleic acid purification kits, ensuring easy access to a broad range of research tools.

How much does antibody development cost?

The price of a custom antibody ranges from a few hundred euros for polyclonal antibodies to hundreds of thousands of euros for a therapeutic monoclonal antibody.

This price difference mainly comes from the complexity of the development process. Developing polyclonal antibodies generally involves antigen production, immunizing animals, collection, testing, and possibly serum purification.

For therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, the process is even more complex—steps include improving affinity (affinity maturation), reducing immunogenicity (humanization), changing the antibody format (bispecific antibodies, ADCs), improving yields (developability, cell line development), and more. All these steps require significant time and expertise, resulting in higher costs. However, partnering with experts who master the full process can be extremely cost-effective by increasing your chances of reaching the clinic and anticipating large-scale development issues. By choosing ProteoGenix, you leverage all this expertise for your project.

How long does it take to develop a custom antibody?

As with cost, antibody development timelines are highly variable depending on application and methods. Development can take around one month for polyclonal antibodies and up to more than a year for fully customized therapeutic antibodies.

This time difference is mainly related to process complexity. Polyclonal antibody development includes antigen production, immunization, then collection, testing, and possible purification of the serum—generally between 1 and 2 months.

Therapeutic monoclonal antibody development also includes engineering steps to refine properties: affinity maturation, humanization, developability improvement, changing the antibody format (bispecific, ADC, etc.), each of which can take from several weeks to months. If you need fast results, our experts can help you select the best options for your custom antibody development.

From your requirements to your custom antibody

When you work with ProteoGenix to develop a custom antibody, you can expect a clear, step-by-step process to deliver high-performance results tailored to your needs.

  • Project Discussion: You’ll have detailed discussions with one of our antibody experts to clarify requirements, objectives, and project timelines. This collaborative approach ensures we tailor the best process to your goals.
  • Antigen Preparation: We will prepare a high-quality antigen, either via synthesis or production, based on initial discussions. Special care is taken with quality, purity, and suitability for eliciting the correct antibody response.
  • Animal Immunization: For polyclonal or certain monoclonal projects (single B cell isolation, hybridoma, or custom immune phage display library), selected animals are immunized using established protocols to stimulate a strong antibody response.
  • Antibody Development: Once an immune response is generated, we collect blood samples. Serum or B cell compartments are then processed to isolate the antibody.
  • Antibody Expression and Purification: For recombinant antibody production, ProteoGenix uses advanced expression systems for scalable, consistent production. Purification methods yield highly pure, functional antibodies.

Throughout the process, ProteoGenix’s experienced scientists guide you every step—from project design to delivery—ensuring rigorous quality controls and customized antibodies that deliver outstanding research or diagnostic results.
